Biography

I am an Orthodox Iconographer living in West Wales. I paint icons in the Byzantine tradition, predominantly in egg tempera on traditionally gessoed wooden panels. I like to use natural pigments and traditional processes. I also apply gold leaf by either water-gilding onto a clay bole ground or oil-gilding and often finishing with gold assiste.

I’ve been an artist for over 25 years and have a background both as an abstract painter and also as a weaver and hand-spinner. Both disciplines have fuelled my ongoing interest in process and how it is driven by a complex balance between materials and meaning.
