I paint icons in the Byzantine tradition, predominantly in egg tempera on traditionally gessoed wooden panels. I like to use natural pigments and traditional processes. I also apply gold leaf by either water-gilding onto a clay bole ground or oil-gilding and often finishing with gold assiste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve been an artist for over 25 years and have a background both as an abstract painter and also as a weaver and hand-spinner. Both disciplines  have fuelled my ongoing interest in process and how it is driven by a complex balance between materials and meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Education<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The King\u2019s Foundation School of Traditional Arts: PhD in Traditional Arts &#8211;
